Who am I, professionally?
I am a senior clinical counsellor, supervisor, and EMDR therapist who shares his practice between the towns of Kamloops, Ashcroft, Cache Creek, Lillooet, Clinton, Merritt, and surrounding rural areas. I undertook my Master of Counselling in Counselling Psychology after 26 years of work in a complex human resources organizational environment. That is to say, I transitioned from getting groups of people to better understand each other, to working with individuals and families developing solutions to life’s challenges. During the last eleven years, I worked delivering General counselling solutions to clients, as an itinerant school counsellor in several rural schools (K-12 grades); and as Mental Health Counsellor for the St’at’imc, Nlapa’kamux, and Gitxsan Peoples, offering clinical support to First Nations’ communities. I am developing my private practice, from where I offer part-time Outreach, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Supervision, and Debriefing and Disaster Psychosocial Recovery services. Methodologically, I currently use an integrated CBT/DBT (Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy), Solutions Focussed (SFBT), Positive Psychology and Narrative (NT) approaches which–leveraged with my EMDR practice– has proven effective to most of my clients. Meanwhile, I never stop learning and looking for creative psychological solutions to address new client’s predicaments.
Influenced by the needs of my patients, I have grown interested in the following areas of practice: School Support; EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing); Children, Youth, and Families; Individual Counselling Psychology (Adlerian, Positive Psychology, CBT/DBT, SFBT, NT, EMDR); Itinerant Counselling Services (Debriefings, Crises, Individual, and Group Counselling); and Trauma-Informed Practice (TIP), specializing in the rehabilitation of victims of trauma (PTSD and CPTSD).
I am a Registered Psychotherapist in the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), a Canadian Certified Counsellor, and a Canadian Certified Clinical Supervisor at the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA, Ottawa). In addition, I am the former Regional Director for BC and the Yukon territory at the Canadian Counselling Psychotherapy Association, (2015-2017 tenure, CCPA, Ottawa).
Who am I, culturally?
I am an immigrant to Canada, and think of myself as a hybrid-cross of Anglo and Italian streams. Born in Argentina, I witnessed first-hand the predicaments of socioeconomically oppressed communities. Over the last 33 years, I have been fortunate to live and work in Canada where I serve People from all cultures and walks of life. I have gained exposure to captivating First Nation cultures: the St’at’imc, Gitxsan, Wet’suwet’en, Cree, and Ojibwa Aboriginal traditions. I have worked as a contractor for the RCMP, WORKSAFE BC, ICBC, EMPLOYMENT BC, FNHA, and STROH HEALTH CARE. I was very fortunate to learn from iconic Psychologists such as Dr. N. Arthur and DR. S. Collins, authors/creators of Culture-Infused Counselling, and EMDR professor Dr. Marshall Wilensky (BC School of Professional Psychology). Thanks to their teachings, and my own learning experiences, I may have gained a solid appreciation of multiculturalism and its effects on counselling.
Who am I, personally?
When not working, I enjoy playing with my dog Stormy, hiking the awesome BC trails with my wife, fishing, boating, and just enjoying the awesome beauty of BC. Carol and I have three grown-up children, having recently acquired two beautiful grandchildren. My lifelong canine friend Nikki, pictured here with me, was arguably the best dog to ever roam the BC and Ontario forests.
I look forward to interacting, sharing, and learning from all of my clients. Contact me, if you feel I could be of direct help to you, your family, or your community. In particular, let me know if you have contract work in clinical counselling and supervision.
